HENRI
FELETTIG
This Domaine
began in 1965 when Henri Felettig’s parents gave him 2 hectares
of vines and 1 hectare of cassis (currants). In 1992 Henri and
his wife Reine purchased additional vineyards bringing the total
of their land to 9.72 hectares. In 1993 Henri and Reine formed
a corporation (GAEC) between themselves and their two children
Christine and Gilbert. In 1995 they expanded further with the
addition of a Vosne-Romanée Village, a Vosne-Romanée
1er Cru, and a Gevrey-Chambertin “La Justice”. Christine
and Gilbert acquired a vineyard in Nuits St. Georges in 2001 which
means their vineyards now spread from Gevray-Chambertin to Vosne-Romanée,
not to mention Hautes Côtes des Nuits and Beaune; a total
of 10 hectares (24.71) acres in the most prestigious appellations.
Their next goal is to obtain a parcel of Grand Cru.
The Felettig’s have received many awards, among them our
Vosne-Romanée, in Macon, Guide Hachette and Testevinage,
to name a few. They use various methods to enhance the quality
of their wines; severe pruning, leaving only 7-8 branches per
vine; green harvesting, cutting the green grapes from the vines
to bring fewer clusters in order to have a greater concentration
of quality juice in the remaining grapes; selective hand-harvesting,
followed by traditional vinification, and aging on the lees in
oak barrels for a period of 12-18 months. They use 40% new oak
barrels for the 1er Cru and 20-30% new oak for the appellation
Villages. Since 1999 they have used no filtration at all on the
Premier Crus in order to preserve the authenticity of their product.
