 Dino Illuminati, grandson of Nico who founded the winery in 1890, has brought the family owned winery to new heights with advanced winemaking technology and skilled craftsmanship.  He has won many awards over the years including one of Italy’s Best Winemakers.  Pieluni is a Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri winning wine that was conceived as a tribute to his three grandchildren.  In fact, the name is comprised of the first three letters of each of the grandchildren’s names. 

 

This fantastic wine is made from 100% Montepulciano grapes, hand harvested in late October and processed in small stainless tanks at a controlled temperature with a long maceration time of about 25-30 days. The wine is aged in barrique for 2 years and then bottled and cellared for an additional 14-15 months.  The result is an intense ruby red colored wine with aromas of blackberries, vanilla, tobacco and licorice.   It is well balanced with perfect flavor and structure.  Pieluni is a very elegant, rich, round, fleshy wine with great volume on the palate. It is an ideal companion to red meats, roasted lamb, mutton and pork as well as dry and aged cheeses.  A grand wine for grand meals.  Decanting is recommended in order to appreciate all the incredible nuances of this wine. Ages well.
