VAGNONI
VERNACCIA DI SAN GIMIGNANO

Vernaccia is a name used for several unrelated Italian grape varietals, mainly white. The most highly regarded form is Vernaccia Di San Gimignano. The name is so common because it comes from the same root as the Latin word “vernacular” or indigenous. Vernaccia has been grown in San Gimignano since at least 1286, when its wines were recorded as commanding higher prices than Greco and others. D.O.C. recognition was awarded in March 1966, making the Vernaccia Di San Gimignano the first ever D.O.C. In 1994 this beautiful delicate wine received the D.O.C.G. designation.

For years this wine was made by traditional methods into a golden wine with some aging ability. Luigi Vagnoni makes a modern wine from hand harvested grapes that are gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks by a cold fermentation process. This beautiful wine is clean, pale, and flowery with a refreshing quality and an attractively crisp finish. An ideal wine for just sipping or to serve with seafood, cheeses, and pasta dishes. Serve slightly chilled.
